ENVIRONMENT-BASED KEYNOTE
Chris Powell is the host of ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition. When he came to us about revitalizing the way motivational talks are given (i.e. less Tony Robbins and more EDC), I was up for the challenge.
The subject matter on obesity was a sensitive one, so I wanted the audience to relate to the pain points and understand the trials his clients go through. Working with the event venue, we were able to engage all five senses (see, touch, hear, taste and smell) by creating moments that connect back to his talk.
We would work with the lighting crew to dim the room when Chris spoke about a dark time in his past, fill the room with the smell of oven-fresh cookies to entice the audience and created interactive participation through conversation. It was less about the spectacle on screen and more about engaging with each other.
